Greene Middle School Chromebook User Agreement

Dear Parent or Guardian:

We are proud to announce that Greene Middle School students will have the opportunity to participate in a One-to-One Chromebook program again this school year. Students will not be traveling home with their Chromebooks this year, rather they will get their device in their house at the start of the school day, and then return the device for charging before leaving the building.

Goals for Student Users

  • To ensure each learner is future ready by providing empowering educational experiences
  • To close the digital divide
  • To increase productivity, efficiency and meaningful engagement of all learners
  • To place students at the center of learning
  • To expand learners' collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity

The changes in NYS Learning Standards, advancement in technology, demands of college/career and citizen readiness requires a change in instructional delivery in the classroom. Teachers are creating online content in the form of lessons, presentations and videos for students to access both at home and in school. The addition of Chromebook devices will offer significant opportunity for all students to engage in the learning process in an interactive and collaborative environment.

In education today, student are required to inquire, search, critically analyze, discuss and write throughout the learning process. Though not every classroom teacher will have students use the devices every day, this experience offers learners a unique opportunity as teaching and learning continues to move away from traditional methods in an effort to ensure each learner is future ready.

General Rules and Responsibilities

It is important to understand that additional responsibilities come with this learning opportunity. Students must be aware of and abide by the following:

  • Students in grades 6-8 will be issued a Chromebook each morning and be responsible for the return of it at the end of each school day to charge overnight.
  • Chromebooks should be cared for with the same level of responsibility as with any other school-issued materials, such as textbooks.
  • Students will use the internet and utilize other related applications, including their school email and Google Drive, in order to store, receive, and submit assignments.
  • The Chromebooks are for school use only and intended for use by only the student to whom it has been loaned. Personal content unrelated to school should not be accessed or stored on the school-issued device.
  • Students are to conduct themselves and use the school-issued technology in accordance with all school Code of Conduct expectations and policies related to acceptable use.
  • Please be aware that while logged in at school, the Chromebook is subject to the district internet filtering system which is designed to block objectionable sites.
